Dripping Springs Elementary School invites you to participate in an exciting new program: Partners in Reading Success (PIRS). The PIRS program matches students in need of help with reading one-on-one with adult volunteer reading mentors for one hour each week. We have a number of students in our school that could benefit from assistance with reading, and YOU can make a difference.
What Does a Mentor Do?
- Reads aloud with the student
- Listens to the student read
- Engages the child in conversation about books and fosters a love of reading and learning
- Acts as a positive role model
- Builds a relationship with the student
- Makes a commitment to volunteer for one school year
The teacher and parent coordinators provide good training and some simple tools to help you work with students in a one hour session weekly, on Thursday or Friday morning.
Please contact Pastor Brad at the church office and he'll connect you with the program coordinators. This is a great way to make a profound difference in the education and life of an aspiring student. And yes, he's a PIRS mentor himself! |
